Another week lacking productivity...thank you RNC
Well, yet another convention has ended. When the DNC hosted its get-together in Boston, I think I was watching cable news about 4-6 hours a day. For the republicans...I will probably cut it down to 3-4.
As a part of my ever growing political education I have been watching all of the various political shows ranging from Washington Week on PBS to Hardball on MSNBC to judge each on their merits and faults. So far, the worst is Hannity and Colmes on Fox. O'Reiley is actually growing on me a bit - he has bits of annoying conservative insanity but I do like how he makes people directly answer questions not spouting party talking points. The best, though, is Tim Russert with Meet the Press. Luckily it's re-aired on CNBC since I sometimes don't wake up early enough on Sunday to catch it on NBC.
Some general comments:
Larry King - give me a break, he isn't a political journalist
Crossfire - I love passionate democrats, but Carville is just nuts. I do like Begala and Tucker though
Joe Scarborough - decent, but republican...
Chris Matthews - probably my favorite cable news commentator
I do have a question though: since when did these "commentators" become "journalists". I enjoy their partisan take on things, but I feel bad for people out there that actually rely on these people for NEWS. Fox, give me a break - you're not a news channel. MSNBC, a little better, but not much. You have people that talk in opinions based on news...don't pretend that you're journalists.
