MacArthur Fellows ("Genius Awards") Announced
There are few honors that I can say I would like to achieve one day, and this one easily tops my list. Part of it is that people do not apply, but rather are nominated, chosen, and given a surprise phone call notifying them of their new recognition and $500,000 - no strings attached.

They select artists, researchers, writers, doctors - a wide range of fields and contributions.

"MacArthur Fellows are selected for their creativity, originality, and potential. By providing resources without stipulations or reporting requirements, the MacArthur Foundation offers the opportunity for Fellows to accelerate their current activities or take their work in new directions. The unusual level of independence afforded to the Fellows underscores the spirit of freedom intrinsic to creative endeavors."

What dating reveals about evolution
I didn't realize that the LA Times, or non-magazine publications rather, offered such interesting articles on social science.

Here is my favourite quote:
"It seems that men want somebody intelligent enough so that they can recognize the man's brilliance," he said, "but not necessarily enough to challenge them — or so smart that they find someone else more interesting."
